How do I set up a Mac client computer for printing with the CTP RIP?

  • Install the PPD (Postscript Printer Description) on the Mac OS X client:
    1. Insert the CTP RIP software disc in the Mac.
    2. Click Tools & Other, then select PPD Mac OS X.
    3. Copy the EFI_eXpress.PPD file.
    4. Open the Hard Drive > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources folder.
    5. Paste the EFI_eXpress.PPD file in the Resources folder.
    Configure the Windows server:
    1. Open the CTP RIP.
    2. Click Actions > Preferences > General > Job Detection.
    3. Under Job Detection select the Activate Hot folder checkbox.
    4. Under Spooler, select the Activate Virtual Printer checkbox.
    5. Enable printer sharing, follow these steps:
      • Windows 7: Click and select Devices and Printers. Right-click your product name, select Printer Properties > Sharing, select the Share this Printer checkbox, and click OK.
      • Windows Vista: Click and select Control Panel. Click Printer under Hardware and Sound, right-click your product name, select Sharing, select the Share this Printer radio button, and click OK.
      • Windows XP: Click Start and select Printers and Faxes. (Or open the Control Panel, select Printers and Other Hardware if necessary, and select Printers and Faxes.) Right-click your product name, select Sharing, select the Share this Printer radio button, and click OK.
    Add CTP RIP to the Mac OS X printer list:
    1. Select System Preferences from the Apple menu, then select Print & Fax or Print & Scan.
    2. Click the  button, then click the Windows icon.
    3. Select the print server from the list of computers.
    4. When prompted, enter the print server's (computer) password and click the Connect button.
    5. Select EFI_eXpress.
    6. For Print Using select Other.
    7. Navigate to the Mac OS X Hard Drive > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources folder, then select EFI_eXpress.PPD and click Open.
    8. Click Add to complete the setup.
